Miami, FL. The Everglades. Ruben Ramirez (founder) and George Brana (lead hunter) of the Florida Python Hunters group hold two Burmese pythons found on a hunt. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and its partners put on the 2013 Python Challenge™ -- a contest to enlist both the general public and python permit holders in a month-long harvest of Burmese pythons. The goal of the challenge is to Increase public awareness about Burmese pythons and how this invasive species is a threat to the Everglades ecosystem, including native wildlife. Registrants can hunt pythons in designated areas around but not IN Everglades National Park. The last day to turn in a python is February 10th, 2013.
